Resource Depot Makes Special Connection with Youth While Sharing Affects of Pollution on Our Earth
Children and youth at Hope Centennial Afterschool Program began their expanded learning opportunity session with Resource Depot learning about the impact of litter, followed by a creative reuse of egg cartons where the children made their own “litter bugs.”
The fun didn’t stop there, Connie, the Resource Depot’s teaching artist , conducted the virtual session from a northern climate where it snowed. “I took them outside in five inches of snow and made snow volcanos with vinegar and baking soda. They asked for a snowman, so I made them a little one. I’m not sure who had more fun, but they totally made my week!”
Connie went the extra mile for the children and youth at Hope Centennial Afterschool Program and the program shared its appreciation on Twitter.
“Ms. Connie is amazing. Our youth created their own “litter bugs” and were so excited about their snowman.
You made a special connection with our youth.”

This session was part of Resource Depot’s Reimagine your World: Creativity through Conservation, a hands-on environmental arts-based program designed to engage kindergarten through eighth graders in creative and collaborative projects that demonstrate creative reuse. Participants learn about the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), and how pollution and overconsumption are affecting society and the environment.
Resource Depot is an expanded learning opportunity provider, contracted by Prime Time Palm Beach County, which received significant funding from the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, to enhance the learning in out-of-school time.
