Out-of-School Time Program Celebrates the End of Summer with a Mini Carnival for Children and Youth
Monday, August 8, 2022, marks the official end of summer and start of back-to-school week for elementary schools across Palm beach County. One participant of the Palm Beach County Quality Improvement System used the last Friday of the summer to celebrate the transition back to school in an incredibly creative and fun way. Kingswood Academy surprised the children and youth in their summer camp with a mini carnival complete with whipped cream pie eating contests, tug of war, sack races, and a variety of other fun games and activities.

“Kingswood Academy in Greenacres always strives to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere for their young people. As their quality advisor, I love seeing them integrate engaging youth development practices such as planning and reflection even during their celebration of the end of summer camp.”
– Anita Winkis, Quality Advisor
Smiling faces were seen all around, as the children had an afternoon of fun in the sun that was also packed with moments highlighting positive youth development practices. Staff at the program took time to ask the children how they would strategize for each event. At the conclusion of the carnival, youth were given their afternoon snack and reflected with one of the counselors sitting in the shade of a tree about what they liked best and what they would change for next time.
