Martin County OST Quality Improvement Initiative
The Martin County Out-of-school Time Quality Improvement Initiative supports out-of-school time (OST) programs, funded by the Children’s Services Council of Martin County with ongoing quality coaching, onsite training, mentoring of youth development strategies and professional development. OST programs support children and youth before school, after school, summer, weekends and during seasonal breaks.

Fostering the love of science and reading begins with fun and engaging learning opportunities in out-of-school-time (OST). This training delivers best practice strategies for conducting STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts, Engineering and Math) activities and read-aloud strategies in the OST setting. You will also learn about ways to engage youth in fun extension activities that enhance literacy skills. Come and explore the magic!
Training Objectives
Participants will:
Describe ways of incorporating science and reading activities into the OST space. Explain how to use the 5E’s instructional method to facilitate science activities in OST. Demonstrate the key components of a read aloud in the OST setting.
