Congratulations to Dwyer Awards Finalist and Afterschool Veteran Nicole Childs
Congratulations to Nicole Childs, a school teacher and afterschool practitioner at Watson B Duncan Middle School, for being nominated and one of four finalists for the 36th Annual Dwyer Awards in the Career Education category. Nicole, has been working in afterschool for more than 10 years. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree through Prime Time’s Education Pathway, she transitioned from afterschool to the classroom, where her extraordinary work with students has earned her this nomination.
In many ways, Nicole believes afterschool gave her the foundation needed to grow and learn to build positive relationships with her students.
“Afterschool is where my connection with students began. The relationships you build with students beyond the school hours are totally different than classroom connections. In the afterschool program, I get to know a lot more students. I have used a lot of my experiences as an afterschool director at an elementary program to help me in the classroom now.”
Since becoming a teacher, Nicole has completed her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and remains active in the afterschool field.
“I am still always so grateful and give credit to Prime Time for the opportunity. I encourage anyone in the afterschool field to use this incredible gift to help further themselves. Even though my degree took me to teaching, I am still working in afterschool serving the students here in Palm Beach County. ”
Prime Time is proud to see how far Nicole Childs has grown in her career and looks forward to seeing all that she will continue to accomplish.
